Surgery is NOT recommended if the patient has active pyoderma
Skin should be very closely inspected at the time of exam and pre-operative radiographs. This may include a light shave being careful to avoid clipper burn. Clipper burn will increase the risk of post-operative infection
If pyoderma is present, the patient must be treated to minimize the risk of post-operative infection. Surgery may be cancelled if pyoderma is found during surgical prep. This would entail a $200 cancellation fee
Any other infection should also be resolved prior to surgery with implants including UTI, ear infections, wounds, anal sacculitis, etc.
